Do you need an HVAC Professional to keep your system running?

Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning at Building Roof

Here at Noron we had installed a great many new HVAC systems, but our work goes far beyond basic installations. We also perform HVAC repair, both on systems we have installed and those from other companies, as well as regular maintenance. We understand how important HVAC systems are to the overall comfort of our clients, which is why we make ourselves available by phone 24 hours a day. However, some clients may be curious to know which repairs and maintenance requirements they can carry out themselves in the case of an emergency. While we recommend calling an expert to handle all HVAC adjustments we understand that some clients like to be a bit more self-reliant. For those clients, we offer this breakdown of which tasks you may be able to perform yourself to keep your HVAC system running smoothly.

Cleaning

The most basic maintenance you can do on your HVAC system is to keep it clean. However, doing so could not be more important. If your system becomes jammed or clogged it can greatly limit its functionality or even cause it to fail entirely. As the owner of the system, the most important thing you can do is to keep the area around your HVAC system’s components clean. If any of your system’s components are outside be sure to trim away bushes and trees. Keeping the area around your system free of clutter will reduce your risk of clogs and other issues significantly, and will allow Noron’s technicians easier access when they come to service your system. We do not recommend cleaning the system’s interior components, like the coils, yourself, as the margin for error in such an operation is quite high, especially for those with no prior knowledge of these systems.

Changing the Filter

Changing your HVAC system’s filter often is key to extending its lifespan. Without a proper filter, the system simply will not be able to function properly. In fact, leaving a dirty filter too long can lead to issues like dirty coils and air ducts, stressed fan motors and polluted air. If filth is present in your HVAC system it may be traveling through it and entering the air. Changing the filter before it causes further problems is something that business owners can do with minimal research and training. It’s one of the simpler ways to keep your system running smoothly. However, if your faulty filter has been present in the system too long it may have caused other problems, and for those we recommend calling a professional.

Basic Repairs

Should you perform basic repairs on your HVAC system? That depends on your level of knowledge and handiness. If you have a talent for maintenance work then you may want to perform simpler tasks like removing drainage pan clogs or tightening loose bolts yourself. Of course doing so is always a risk, and calling a professional is always a safer option, but for some of our clients repairs like these are not an issue. However, even if you want to handle basic repair concerns yourself it’s still best to leave the more complicated problems to the professionals. If the problem with your HVAC system is potentially dangerous (like loose wiring), requires parts you do not have easy access to or involves complicated mechanical repairs to solve then you are much better off contacting Noron than attempting to solve the issue yourself.

Here at Noron we believe that our customers should have the freedom to perform basic work on their HVAC systems if they see fit. After all, once we install your system it is your property to do with as you like. However, performing any repairs yourself, even simple ones, is a risk. Calling a professional is always the safer bet, and we recommend always doing so for more complex repairs at the very least. That being said, if you have a head for mechanical work and you want to try to handle some of these issues on your own that is your right. We are here to help you with whatever you might require, so call us if you feel you need our expertise and skill. Whatever you decide about your latest HVAC repair Noron is always just a phone call away.
